Under general supervision, the Production Helper is responsible for supporting and contributing to the daily operational needs of the Paint and Blast work area. Duties may include preparing parts for paint (wet and powder), loading and unloading the blast booth, operating the blast booth, moving material to the designated work areas, and kitting parts.

Essential Functions of the Job:

Responsibilities under the Painting function:

  • Clean, prepare and mask product surfaces for paint application.

  • Assist with the maintenance of the powder and wet paint booths.

Responsibilities under the Blast Booth function:

  • Manually hang parts on the monorail before and after the blasting process.

  • Operate the sand/shot blast equipment according to instruction.

  • Position product by hoist or overhead crane to secure and ensure parts are ready for blasting.

  • Perform quality control checks to ensure parts are prepared for paint.

  • Replace and maintain crane chains and worn nozzles as necessary.

  • Cleans shot and paint bays as needed.

General Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and organize shop and storage areas. Ensuring proper storage of flammable items.

  • Operate all company owned equipment and vehicles in a safe, lawful and respectful manner.

  • May be assigned additional responsibilities as necessary to support operations / production.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):

  • Must be able to take direction and follow through with assignment.

  • Basic trouble shooting skills.

  • High level of manual dexterity with hand tools.

  • Willingness and aptitude to learn new manufacturing processes; powder coating, wet paint, paint preparation, machine operations.

  • Mechanically inclined, production oriented, and safety and quality conscious.

  • Able to work with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines.

  • Must be able to read basic work instructions, and understand how to read and use measuring equipment such as a tape measure, decimals and fractions.

  • Able to wear a respirator and other personal protective equipment as required.

  • Able to operate a forklift and other material handling equipment.

Education and Experience:

  • Previous work experience in a manufacturing work environment strongly preferred.

  • Experience operating a hoist / overhead crane equipment.

  • Experience with rigging and positioning fabricated parts preferred.

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

Working Conditions:

Work will be performed in a production environment that has minimal climate control. Frequent standing, twisting, bending, stooping and climbing in and around metal fabricated parts. Exposure to paint and blasting material. Frequent lifting, pushing or pulling of 40lbs independently. Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate production equipment.
