Old Dominion Brush Company (ODB) is accepting applications to fill the position of Industrial Equipment Painter in the Painting department in Richmond, Virginia. Our Parent Company is Alamo Group.

Position Summary:

Under minimal to moderate supervision, sprays surfaces of machines, manufactured products or working area with protective material such as paint, enamel, glaze, or lacquer using spray gun. Loads and moves materials to work area, fills containers with prescribed quantities of paint and thinners. Cleans and prepares surface of articles to be painted, using solvent, sandpaper, and scraper.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Cleans grease and dirt from product, using materials such as lacquer thinner, soap and water or phosphatizing machine.

  • Applies masking tape over parts and areas that are not to be coated. Fills cavities and dents with putty to attain a smooth surface.

  • Fills containers with prescribed quantities of paint and thinners.

  • Operates spray gun, according to knowledge of painting technique, to direct spray primer or finish coat (multiple colors) to work surface.

  • Responsible for keeping paint area clean including equipment.

  • Sands primer or putty fillers with an air sander to obtain a smooth finish.

  • May operate forklift or other material handling equipment to transport parts to designated areas.

  • Responsible for movement of material or product and ensure documentation of standard inventory control processes or procedures.

  • Responsible for inspecting painted product to reduce scrap.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):

  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team.

  • Ability to work with chemicals and solvent.

  • Ability to operate a sander, forklift, spray paint machines and high-pressure air hose.

  • Ability to use HVLP gravity spray gun.

  • Knowledge of single-stage auto paint.

  • Ability to work from verbal as well as written instructions.

  • Ability to wear a pressure demand respirator and other required PPE.

  • Ability to distinguish colors; color acuity required.

Education and Experience:

  • 2-8 years’ painting experience in manufacturing paint booth or paint enclosure environment or in a transportation body repair/paint facility.

  • High School or GED equivalent preferred; Trade School Certificate helpful.

Working Conditions:

The following activities are required up to 100% of a typical workday:

  • Stand and walk on concrete surface

  • Hear, smell

  • Lift, pull and push up to 50 pounds without assistance

  • Work around fumes or airborne particles

  • Work around toxic or caustic chemicals

The following activities are required up to 75% of a typical workday:

  • Use hands or fingers to handle or feel

  • Reach with hands and arms

  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

  • Move over rough/uneven ground

  • Balance on high/narrow places – 6 feet

The following activities are required up to 25% of a typical workday:

  • Climb up to 6 feet high

  • Work in/under cramped places

  • Talk

  • Lift, pull and push 51 to 100 pounds with assistance

  • Work in wet or humid conditions

Position has the following vision requirements:

  • Ability to distinguish colors and shades of color

Work is performed in a loud manufacturing environment that is not-climate controlled including the enclosed painting booth.
