Old Dominion Brush Company LLC (ODB) is accepting applications to fill the position of Machine Operator -

Automated Gutter Broom Cell in the Brooms Department in Richmond, Virginia. Alamo Group is our Parent Company.

Position Summary:

Under moderate supervision, the Machine Operator operates an automated robot cell to produce an array of Old Dominion Brush Company Inc. products.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Operates robot cell to produce defect-free parts in a timely manner.

  • Responds to and addresses errors or faults as they occur.

  • Adjusts points in the program using the prescribed step-through or calibration process.

  • Works with engineering to identify and set up new parts to produce in the cell.

  • Monitors and replenishes raw material to cell and clears outlet buffer of finished goods in a timely manner to minimize machine stops and ensure continuous operation.

  • Reads job specifications to determine machine product selection, adjustments, and material requirements.

  • Performs changeover of equipment to match product specifications, including changing fixtures/jigs, raw material, and packaging.

  • Positions stops or guides to specified lengths/positions as indicated by blueprints, scale, rule, machine marking or template to match product and material requirements.

  • Performs in-process and end-of-line inspections and measurements of components and finished products and performs adjustments to material or equipment settings/parameters to ensure quality of parts produced.

  • Monitors and adjusts equipment parameters electronically and/or mechanically to maintain the required product specifications.

  • Maintains and adjusts production equipment for safe and efficient operation.

  • Performs basic preventive maintenance and equipment upkeep tasks, such as greasing, cleaning and changing of wear components on equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.

  • Packs finished products into the correct containers in the correct quantities and applies the appropriate product label per provided job specifications.

  • Moves parts and/or work pieces manually, by hoist or forklift and secures parts using clamps, braces, etc. as directed prior to and during machine operation.

  • Maintains production quantities, efficiency and quality of parts produced.

  • Maintains clean and organized workspace.

  • Completes all necessary routing and work order documentation accurately.

  • Assembles gutter brooms semi-manually and other brooms as required.

  • Positive team-based attitude and a willingness to cross train on machinery in the brooms department.

  • Ability to adhere to company safety expectations and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Must be able to use and read a tape measure, calipers/micrometer, weighing scale and various other measuring tools.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):

  • Capable of performing standard measurements. Must be able to use and read a tape measure, calipers/micrometer, weighing scale, and various other measuring tools.

  • Ability to use drawings and sketches to produce and inspect in-process components and finished goods.

  • Ability to adhere to company safety expectations and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team.

  • Good math skills.

  • Mechanical aptitude.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate, preferred

  • Previous experience operating automated or semi-automated production/fabrication machinery preferred.

Working Conditions:

The following activities are required up to 100% of a typical workday:

  • Stand on a concrete surface for extended periods (up to 8+ hours) as required by tasks being completed

  • Use hands or fingers to handle or feel

  • Reach with hands and arms

  • Lift, push, and pull up to 35 pounds without assistance

  • Lift, push, and pull 35 to over 100 pounds with assistance

  • Work near moving mechanical parts
